Six Pack Wrestlers Ranked in First NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings

PREVIEW: Beauty & the Beat Friday Night in Reynolds
RALEIGH, N.C. – Six NC State wrestlers were ranked in the first Division I Wrestling Coaches’ Panel Rankings that were released Thursday afternoon.
• Sophomore Sam Speno is ranked No. 23 at 141 pounds. Speno is 17-5 on the year, including 11-2 in duals and defeated No. 19 Tyler Small of Kent State last weekend, 3-2.
• Freshman Brian Hamann is ranked No. 26 at 149 pounds. Hamann leads the Pack with four wins over ranked opponents this year and posts a 16-7 overall record.
• Junior Tommy Gantt is ranked No. 18 at 157 pounds. Gantt is second on the Pack in victories this year with 23 and is 9-1 in duals, winning his last five.
• Senior Nijel Jones is ranked No. 32 at 165 pounds. Jones is 10-3 this year, including 5-1 in duals.
• Freshman Pete Renda is ranked No. 20 at 174 pounds. Renda is second on the Pack with an 11-1 record in duals this year and is 19-6 overall.
• Redshirt-sophomore Nick Gwiazdowski is ranked No. 5 at 285 pounds. Gwiazdowski leads the Pack with his 27-2 record this season and also his 13 pins.
NC State returns to action Friday night, as the wrestling team and the gymnastics team will host the first-ever Beauty and the Beast. The wrestling team will face Campbell at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack returns to ACC action on Sunday, hosting No. 17 Virginia Tech at 2 p.m.
