RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State junior Joelle Kissell will open play in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship on Wednesday, May 22 at 12:30 p.m. ET when she takes on Texas' Aeriel Ellis.
The singles tournament will be held May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill.
A two-time All-ACC selection, Kissell is just the second player in program history to be selected to the singles championship twice in a career, joining Kylie Hunt (1994-95) as the only other individual to accomplish the feat.
Last season, Kissell became the second player in program history to advance in the tournament, after defeating California's 48th-ranked Tayler Davis, 7-5, 6-1, in the first round. Sanaa Bhambri was the first to advance in the tournament in 2011.
Ellis, a senior at Texas, owns a 27-11 overall record this season and a 20-6 mark in dual singles play. Ellis is currently ranked 37th in the ITA singles rankings.
Matches will be decided in a best-of-three-sets format. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games apiece will be used for all matches.
