KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The ACC-champion NC State softball team traveled to Tennessee on Wednesday to begin preparations for the Wolfpack's third ever NCAA postseason appearance.
The Pack (33-18-1 overall, 13-7 ACC) has won 12 consecutive games and 19 of its last 21 contests heading into Friday's 3:30 p.m. opener against James Madison (41-15 overall, 18-3 Colonial Athletic Association) at Tennessee's Sherry Parker Lee Stadium. Also in the regional will be host and fifth-ranked Tennessee and Big South champion Longwood.
"We had a couple of good practices at home before we hit the road," said first-year head coach Shawn Rychcik. "I think everyone is excited about getting back on the field after the big weekend we had at the ACC championship.
"We're all feeling good right now."
State practiced at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium on Wednesday morning then bused over the mountains to Knoxville afterwards. The team also practiced at home on Monday and Tuesday.
Rychcik believes his team, which was recognized at Monday night's NC State-Florida State baseball game, has absorbed winning the school's second ACC softball title and is ready to refocus its NCAA regional appearance.
"I think we've handled it the right way," Rychcik said. "We celebrated it on Sunday and Monday and we got back to work. I think we'll be ready when it's time to play on Friday."
All of the regional games will be broadcast on UTSports.com at the links above. All-session tickets for the weekend regional are sold out. Single session tickets, if available, will be go on sale at Lee Stadium ticket windows on Friday, when gates open at 2:30 p.m.
