RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team will host UNC Greensboro in its second home match of the season on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. in the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Wolfpack enters Thursday's match after a 7-0 season-opening victory over East Carolina last week. The Pack won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, before sweeping all six singles contests to seal the shutout.
Junior and 33rd-ranked Joelle Kissell and sophomore Elisha Hande each collected 6-0, 6-0 wins playing in the No. 1 and No. 5 spots, respectively, while seniors Tatiana Illova (6-1, 7-5) and Chloe Smith (6-2, 6-1) eased their way to straight-set victories in the No. 4 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
Junior Christy Sipes and sophomore Nicole Martinez had nearly identical results, as both dropped their first sets, 6-4, but responded to win their second sets, 7-5, before winning 10-point, third-set tiebreakers.
UNCG enters Thursday's dual match with an 0-1 record this season, after a 7-0 defeat at the hands of North Carolina on Jan. 23 in Chapel Hill. The Spartans finished last season with an 18-6 overall mark and a 10-0 record in conference play, en route to the Southern Conference regular season championship.
Entering the dual match, NC State owns a 14-0 lead over UNCG in the all-time series. The teams last met in 2006, where the Wolfpack defeated the Spartans, 7-0.
