MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - NC State freshmen Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner earned NCBWA All-American honors, with Rodon landing on the first team and Turner garnering a third team mention, announced Wednesday by the organization.
Rodon and Turner represent two of the seven ACC performers selected to the NCBWA’s three All-America teams, placing NC State second in the conference behind Florida State’s three mentions. Only Florida State and NC State have multiple NCBWA All-Americans among ACC schools.
Rodon has accumulated National Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors from both Louisville Slugger and the NCBWA, and remains in contention for consensus first team All-America honors after capturing first team mentions from both organizations.
Turner received a third team mention at third base, behind first teamer D.J. Peterson, a sophomore out of New Mexico, and second teamer Trenton Moses, a senior from SE Missouri State.
Outside of Rodon and Turner, Oregon State’s Michael Conforto marks the only other freshman on any of the three teams. Rodon is the only freshman on the first team, and Turner represents the lone freshman on the third team.
The last Wolfpacker to make the NCBWA’s All-America first team was Tom Sergio in 1997. That season also marked the last time NC State had multiple NCBWA All-Americans that included a first teamer. NC State had a pair of players (one second team, one third team) in 2004. The last time NC State had more than two came in 2003 (one second team, two third team), two of those honored were freshmen.
