Pack Blasts Five Homers and Sweeps Boston College

RALEIGH, N.C. - Wolfpack softball swept a doubleheader against Boston College (19-15, 1-7 ACC) today at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium. The Pack cranked out 20 hits and knocked five home runs en route to defeating the Eagles by a score of 10-3 in both contests.
Bethaney Wells had a standout day at the plate, going a combined 3-for-6 with three home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored in the two games. Landon Warren also put together an impressive peformance at the plate, going 3-for-6 with five RBI and a grand slam.
Emily Weiman went the distance in the victory. She surrendered two earned runs on five hits and struck out nine Boston College hitters in the contest.
Boston College posted one run in the first inning off of one hit and one Pack error to take a 1-0 lead.
Wells hit her third home run of the day in the first inning, this time a three-run shot, to put State up 3-1.
The Eagles scored a run in the second and third inning to tie up the game at 3-3.
State reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third when Wells led off the frame with a walk and scored on a base hit by Scout Albertson. The big blow of the frame was delivered by Warren, who belted a towering grand slam to make the Pack lead 8-3.
The Wolfpack put another run on the board in the fourth inning thanks to a Jones double that scored Caitlin Dent. After four complete, State held a 9-3 lead over Boston College.
Davis opened the fifth inning with a base hit and came around to score on a BC errant throw that traveled all the way to the fence. After five full innings, the Pack led the Eagles 10-3.
Weiman retired the Eagles in order in the seventh to preserve her 11th victory of the 2012 season.
NC State (18-22, 2-8 ACC) defeated Boston College 10-3 in the first game of the doubleheader.
Wells went 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored in game one, and Davis went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI at the plate for the Pack.
Morgan Peeler picked up the win in the circle, surrendering three runs off of five hits while striking out seven Eagle hitters in the contest.
Dent reached on an error with two outs in the first, starting a Wolfpack rally. Wells followed by smashing her eighth home run of the season to put the Wolfpack up 2-0. Leah Jones and Katie Mansilla then notched back-to-back hits to put runners on first and third, but State could not push another run across.
Wells struck again in the third inning, driving her second home run of the game, another two-run shot, to put the Pack up 4-0. Jones again followed with a base hit and moved into scoring position on a perfectly placed Mansilla sacrifice bunt. Later in the frame, Davis notched an RBI-single to score Jones and give the Pack a 5-0 lead. Warren rounded out State's scoring in the inning by knocking her first hit of the day to score Davis. After three complete innings, the Wolfpack led BC 7-0.
Peeler struck out four BC hitters through the first three innings of the contest, but Boston College put one run on the board in the fourth inning off of one hit and two walks.
Mansilla opened the fifth with a base hit, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then moved to third on a deep fly ball by Albertson. She was then plated by Davis' third base knock of the day. After five full innings, State held an 8-1 lead over the Eagles.
The Eagles added two runs in the sixth, cutting the Wolfpack lead to 8-3.
The Wolfpack countered in the bottom of the sixth when Jones smashed her second home run of the season, a two-run shot, to increase State's advantage to 10-3.
Peeler retired the Eagles in the seventh to preserve the win for her sixth victory of the 2012 season.
NC State returns to action tomorrow at noon for the final game in its series versus Boston College. First pitch in the contest is set for noon at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium.
