GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State left-hander Carlos Rodon earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors, announced Monday by the conference office, after a masterful 10-strikeout effort Saturday.
Rodon (7-0) controlled game one of the Wolfpack's doubleheader against visiting Boston College, striking out 10 batters over eight shutout innings.
His performance spanned a 40-minute rain delay in the sixth, as the game was halted with Rodon holding a 1-2 count on an Eagle batter. The freshman stayed warm during the delay and returned in style by registering a strikeout on his first pitch after the break, followed by another two innings of shut-out ball.
The Holly Springs, N.C. native held the Eagles to five hits and one walk, lowering his ERA to 1.23 over 73.1 innings, good for second in the ACC.
Rodon marks the third Pack player to claim an ACC weekly honor this season, following Trea Turner's Player of the Week award a week ago, and Chris Diaz's Player of the Week honor on March 12. This season represents the first since 2004 that NC State has captured three or more ACC weekly awards.
