Raleigh, N.C. -
After the Wolfpack’s Belk Bowl win over Louisville, the 2011 senior class started to turn their attention to the next phase of their lives. For some, that meant finishing up their degree and preparing for the work world. As for others, they started to get serious about their dreams of playing football at the next level.
Last weekend, a total of six former Pack football players competed at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. A who’s who of college football players were measured, tested and interviewed by all 32 NFL teams.
“We are really excited to see the success of our players going to the NFL Combine,” said NC State head coach Tom O’Brien. “We look forward to them coming back to campus for our Pro Day, and impressing NFL people.
“It is exciting to see their stats on the bottom line when watching TV, and that certainly helps in recruiting.”
Over the next couple of weeks, GoPack.com will feature how the Pack performed at the NFL combine, and how these players are now preparing for NC State’s Pro Day on March 21st, and the 2012 NFL Draft which takes place April 26-28.
Audie Cole
Linebacker
GoPack.com: You played both outside and inside linebacker at NC State, where have teams been looking to have you play?
Cole: Teams are really looking at me at both spots, depending on what different organizations need. I really don’t have a preference as to which spot I would play.
GoPack.com: Where have you been training since the Belk Bowl?
Cole: I went down to Nashville, and I enjoyed my time there. They helped me a lot in leading up to the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine. It was a good place to work out.
GoPack.com: What were your feelings about your testing at the NFL Combine?
Cole: I was not totally satisfied with a lot of things, I know I can do better pretty much in everything. My shuttle and three-cone drill was alright, as was my first 40 time. But I know I can get better at all of them. I just need to figure out what I am going to do here on Pro Day.
GoPack.com: What do you planning on doing at NC State’s Pro Day?
Cole: Obviously I will be going through all the linebacker drills, but I’m really not sure yet what I will be doing in the individual drills. I know I’m going to have to redo the bench press, because I messed up on that and I know I can do better. I’m just looking forward to improving myself in a couple of weeks.
GoPack.com: Talk to all the NFL teams, what was your feeling leaving the NFL Combine?
Cole: I think it’s still early in this whole process, way too early to even start thinking about the draft and what will happen. All of the meetings I had with teams were great. I was very well prepared by the staff here at NC State, they have helped me so much during my time here and helped me get to this stage.
GoPack.com: Going from high school quarterback, to being recruited at Boston College by Coach O’Brien, to coming and playing here has been quite a journey for you.
Cole: I think my journey to this process has been different then a lot of players, but it has definitely has been a good one. I am excited to move on and keep it going. I kind of thought I might have an opportunity like this, but not until a couple of years ago did I really think it would be a reality. It has been great, and I don’t want it to end any time soon.
