Pack Offense Explodes Against Campbell

ATHENS, Ga. - NC State (2-1) had an offensive explosion against in-state foe Campbell (1-1) during the Red and Black Showcase in Athens, Ga., defeating the Fighting Camels by a score of 13-2.
Freshman pitcher Emily Weiman carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning en route to the victory. In the contest, she surrendered no earned runs off of three hits in five innings of work.
Toni Ann Williford and Kirsty Grant paced State offensively. Williford posted a 2-for-4 day at the plate and scored two runs, while Grant went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Williford led off the game with a single, then Landon Warren followed with an RBI double to give the Pack a 1-0 lead. Renada Davis then walked and Bethaney Wells notched a single to load the bases for Leah Jones. Jones ripped a hard ground ball to third, but Campbell turned a quick double play. The next batter, Grant, knocked a triple to plate Wells and Jones, extending the Pack lead to 4-0.
Weiman struck out the side in the second inning to preserve the 4-0 Wolfpack advantage.
The first five batters of the second inning reached, and Scout Albertson capped off the six-run inning by smashing her first career home run, a two-run shot, to increase the Wolfpack lead to 10-0.
Davis was hit by a pitch with two outs in the third inning, which catalyzed a Pack rally. Wells then reached on an error, and both runners came around to score on a base hit by Grant. After three innings of play, State led the contest 12-0.
In the fourth inning, Campbell's Ericka Nesbitt notched the first hit of the game for the Camels off of Weiman. They loaded the bases in the frame, but Weiman and the Pack defense worked out of the jam to maintain the 12-0 shutout.
Albertson walked to lead off the fourth inning and came around to score on a double by Katie Mansilla. After four frames of play, the Pack led 13-0.
Campbell scored two runs in the fifth inning off of two hits and one Pack error, but due to the mercy rule, the game was called after five innings of play.
The Pack returns to action at the Red and Black Showcase tomorrow, taking on host No. 10 Georgia at 3 p.m.
