The 25th-ranked NC State men’s basketball team will be seeking its fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday night when it hosts Stanford at PNC Arena at 9 p.m.
This is the second meeting between the two programs with Stanford winning the initial contest in Palo Alto, 76-72, last December.
The Pack led by as much as 12 in the second half, but it saw its lead disappear and Stanford take control when C.J. Leslie exited the game with cramping issues at the 10 minute mark and Scott Wood fouled out with five minutes remaining in the contest. Leslie left the game with 14 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the field, including 1-for-1 from 3-point range, and 1-for-1 from the line.
Stanford’s Josh Owens made a pair of free throws with three minutes remaining to give the Cardinal the lead for good. C.J. Williams finished with a team-high 18 points to lead the Wolfpack.
Wolfpack coach Mark Gottfried is familiar with the Cardinal program having coached against it as an assistant and head coach. During his time as an assistant at UCLA, he helped the Bruins to a 10-4 mark against Stanford.
While at Alabama, Gottfried defeated Stanford in the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament, 70-67, when the Cardinal was the top-seeded team in the field of 64.
Tuesday’s game can be heard on the NC State Radio Network with Gary Hahn and Tony Haynes on the call. Wolfpack fans that subscribe to satellite radio can hear the game on Sirius or XM by tuning to channel 92 on their receiver.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Dave LaMont providing the play-by-play and Sean Farnham handling color analysis of the action.
