RALEIGH, N.C. - After taking the week off for final exams, the NC State men’s basketball team returns to the court on Saturday when it hosts Norfolk State at PNC Arena. The game is set for a 7 p.m., tip.
The Wolfpack is trying to extend its winning streak to three games after wins over Connecticut and Cleveland State last week.
Senior Richard Howell will be looking to extend his double-double streak to three games versus the Spartans. Howell has registered double dips in three of the Pack’s last four contests. Over that span, he’s averaging 16.3 points and 10.0 rebounds.
His frontcourt mate, C.J. Leslie is almost averaging a double-double (16.3 ppg, 9.8 rpg) in NC State’s last four games. The Pack’s record this season is 4-1 when either Howell or Leslie records a double-double.
Norfolk State etched its name into NCAA Tournament lore last year as a No. 15-seed, when it pulled a second-round upset of No. 2-seed Missouri, 86-84. The Spartans will be playing its second straight top-25 opponent this week after missing on an upset bid of No. 10 Illinois, 64-54, on Tuesday. Norfolk State trailed by three with 2:30 left in the contest, but it was unable to convert a couple of late possessions and the Illini pulled away by hitting their free throws down the stretch.
Saturday’s game can be heard on the NC State radio network and nationally on satellite radio on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 190. Gary Hahn will handle the play-by-play duties and Tony Haynes will provide the color commentary. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN3 with Mike Gleason and former Wolfpack assistant coach Stan Lewter on the call.
