RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State hits the road for the first time in ACC play when it travels to Wake Forest on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m. All the action can be heard on the NC State Radio Network and seen on the ACC Network in markets featuring conference schools. Nationally, it can been seen on the ESPN Full Court package or via ESPN3 on the internet.
Both teams enter Saturday contest coming off a loss in their previous outing. The Pack fell at home to Georgia Tech, 82-71, this past Wednesday night. The Demon Deacons suffered a 70-64 loss at Maryland also last Wedneday.
The Wolfpack is led in scoring by sophomore C.J. Leslie and junior Scott Wood. Leslie is averaging 13.7 points per game (11th ACC), while Wood is averaging 12.8 per game (17th ACC). Junior Richard Howell is third in the league in rebounding averaging 9.2 boards per game (3rd ACC).
Wake Forest features the dynamic duo of Travis McKie and C.J. Harris, who rank second and third in the ACC in scoring. McKie is scoring at a clip of 18.0 per game, while Harris is averaging 17.7 per outing.
• NC State leads the overall series with Wake Forest 134-99.
• The Wolfpack has won the last three games, including a 80-55 decision last season in Winston-Salem (2/13/11).
• This is only the second true road game for NC State this season. The Wolfpack fell to Stanford, 76-72, in Palo Alto, Calif., on 12/4/11.
• The Pack's games versus Vanderbilt, Texas and St. Bonaventure were are all neutral site games. State posted a 2-1 mark in those games.
• Last year, NC State was 1-7 on the road in ACC play.
• Head coach Mark Gottfried is 0-1 versus Wake Forest. He faced the Demon Deacons in his first year at Alabama in the first round of the 1999 NIT, falling 73-57 in Winston-Salem.
• With a victory on Saturday, Gottfried would become the only Wolfpack coach to win his first ACC road game.
• Everett Case, Press Maravich and Les Robinson all made their ACC road debuts at Wake Forest.
• Scott Wood is 39-of-39 from the line this year and has hit a school record 49 straight dating back to last year. He is five shy of tying Duke J.J. Redick for the ACC all-time make for consecutive free throws.
• Wood leads the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.439) and 3-pointers made (43, 2.7 per game). His streak of 14 consecutive games with a made 3-pointer is second longest in the ACC.
• NC State is the only ACC program to list two guards in the assist/turnover ratio. Lorenzo Brown is third in the conference (2.3) and Alex Johnson is fifth (1.9).
• NC State's offensive production (77.0 ppg) trails only UNC and Duke among ACC teams.
• It has the conference's top free throw percentage (.753).
• The Pack is only ACC program with five players listed among league's scoring leaders.
• The Pack's strength of schedule is 24th according to Collegerpi. com (as of 1/13/12) and its NCAA RPI is 44th.
• The ACC has the fourth best RPI according to Collegerpi.com.
