Raleigh, N.C. – Robert “Bob” Jordan III, father-in-law of head wrestling coach Carter Jordan, released his biography The Man from Mount Gilead this week. Bob, an NC State graduate of 1954 with honors in forestry, details a lifetime of accomplishments in his book.
After graduating from NC State, Bob became president of the Forestry Foundation. He was a state Senator from 1976 to 1984 and was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1985. He served on the UNC Board of Governors and was chairman of the North Carolina Economic Development Board. Bob also helped develop the Jordan Lumber Company, a family-owned business of which he is now President.
Bob was named State’s Outstanding Young Alumnus in 1966. “This university has been the core of my success,” he said to an NC State audience last week.
With four natural resources alumni in the family, the Jordan family is loyal supporters of the College of Natural Resources at NC State. The Jordan Distinguished Professorate, the Jordan Graduate Fellowship and the Jordan Family Scholarship have all been established by the Jordan family to support education at NC State. Jordan Hall, one of the College of Natural Resources main buildings, is named for the Jordan family.
“My father-in-law has been very inspirational to me, and has played a large factor in my growth as a person as well as in the success I have been able to achieve as a wrestling coach,” said Carter.
Carter, a former NC State wrestler, has enjoyed success in coaching during his seven years with the program. Since Carter took the program over in 2005, the Wolfpack has produced one national champion, 13 conference champions and 21 NCAA Tournament qualifiers. With a recruiting class ranked in the top-10, Carter and NC State wrestling will look to continue that success this year.
