Raleigh, N.C. -
The first season of the Mark Gottfried era will feature 19 home games, including three to be played at historic Reynolds Coliseum, as the 2011-12 NC State men's basketball schedule was released Wednesday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
"Our scheduling philosophy will also be to play opponents who we know will have strong RPIs and be high-level competition," said Gottfried. "Obviously, some pieces of the schedule were in place when we got here, but we feel good about the upgrades we were able to make. We are playing teams like Princeton and Morehead State which both had 25 wins and went to the tournament last year, along with more traditional powers like Syracuse, Texas, Vanderbilt and Indiana. We also go on the road for tough games with Stanford in the Pac-10 and St. Bonaventure in the A-10 so I think it will be tremendously challenging."
NC State will open its 2010-11 campaign against UNC Asheville on Nov. 13 at the RBC Center, in the first of four games the Wolfpack will play in the Legends Classic. After hosting Princeton on Nov. 16, the Pack will conclude action in the Legends Classic against Vanderbilt and then either Oregon State or Texas at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J., the weekend of Nov. 19-21.
The Wolfpack's non-conference schedule also features road contests Dec. 4 at Stanford and against St. Bonaventure in Rochester, N.Y, on Dec. 20. Non-conference highlights at the RBC Center include Indiana in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 30 and Syracuse visiting on Dec. 17.
The Pack will also play three regular-season home games in historic Reynolds Coliseum; Elon on Nov. 25, North Carolina Central on Dec. 11, and Campbell on Dec. 29.
The ACC portion of NC State's schedule will begin when the Wolfpack plays host to Maryland on Jan. 8 and then Georgia Tech on Jan. 11. This will mark the first time since the 1994-95 season the Pack has started its ACC schedule with two straight home games.
The Pack will face Boston College, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and Wake Forest both home and away this season. In other ACC games, Florida State, Maryland and Virginia will all be visiting the RBC Center, while the Pack will be at Clemson, Duke and Virginia Tech.
The ACC Tournament returns to Atlanta, Ga., for the first time since 2009, and will be played at Philips Arena from March 8-11.
Season ticket holders and Wolfpack Club members will be receiving their season-ticket application in the mail later this week. Renewals are also available online at gopack.com/renewtix. Season tickets may be purchased using the payment plan option. Spread your cost over three payments (1/3 due at the time of purchase, 1/3 charged on September 15th, and 1/3 on October 15th).
