RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State junior tight end Asa Watson is a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team as announced yesterday by the organization. Celebrating its 20th year, the award recognizes selfless contributions to volunteerism and community service.
A native of Rock Hill, S.C., Watson spent part of the summer working on Skid Row in Los Angeles with Athletes in Action. Earlier this month Watson was named a recipient of the ACC's Top Six for Service award. Last year he participated in a clothing drive for the homeless and served as a leader of a Bible study group.
The award is widely considered the sport's pre-eminent community service award. The 22 student-athletes named to the 2011 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be announced in late September.
