Baseball Plays At Campbell On Wednesday

RALEIGH, N.C. — The NC State baseball team will play 50 percent of its remaining non-ACC schedule Wednesday against Campbell at Buies Creek.
The Wolfpack and Camels are scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Taylor Field. The game will be broadcast live on WKNC-FM (88.1) and will be available on-line with videostreaming on GoPack.com’s All-Access package.

NC State is 27-21 after dropping a three-game series to East Tennessee State last weekend. The Pack has won nine of its last 14 games, including a 3-2 decision over the Camels on April 19 at Doak Field at Dail Park. Campbell has lost 12 in a row and is 15-31 pending a game Tuesday evening vs. North Carolina A&T.
Junior righthander Vance Williams (1-0, 3.37 ERA) will start for NC State. This will be his 13th appearance and his fourth start. He has pitched 34 2/3 innings, allowing 27 hits, striking out 26 and walking 17. He is 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA in three starts this season, and 0-0 with a 5.23 ERA in nine relief appearances. Williams has allowed 16 runs and 11 earned runs on 27 hits in 38 innings in his last 12 appearances (2.61 ERA), dating back to the 2010 NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional.
The Overall Series vs. Campbell
NC State leads the series with Campbell by a 43-12-1 mark. The Wolfpack is 16-5 vs. the Camels since Elliott Avent became head coach in 1997. The Pack is 10-2 at home vs. the Camels in that time, and 6-3 at Campbell. The Camels have won three of the last five meetings. NC State won seven of eight prior to that.
NC State defeated Campbell 3-2 on April 19 at Doak Field at Dail Park. The victory was the fourth in what proved to be a season-longest six-game winning streak for the Wolfpack.
Pratt Maynard got NC State off to a quick 2-0 lead with a one-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Righthander Vance Williams entered the game with two out in the second inning and carried the 2-0 lead into the eighth before the Camels rallied to tie the game at 2-2. Andrew Ciencin ended the game with a bases-loaded single off the wall in left-center field in the bottom of the ninth. Chris Overman got the win with 1 1/3 shutout innings in relief.
Who’s Hot For The Wolfpack
NC State has won nine of its last 14 games and 17 of 28 since a 10-10 start. The Wolfpack is hitting .282 and scoring 6.3 runs per game in that time, and several hitters have swung the bats very well in recent games.
• Harold Riggins is hitting .440 (11-for-25) in his last seven games, and .388 (19-for-49) with three doubles, a home run, 10 runs scored and five RBIs in his last 14 games.
• John Gianis is batting .364 (16-for-44) with five doubles, a home run, 10 runs scored and six RBIs in his last 12 games.
• Matt Bergquist is hitting .381 (16-for-42) with two doubles, two home runs, eight runs scored and 14 RBIs in his last 10 games.
• Danny Canela is hitting .421 (8-for-19) with a double, a home run and six RBIs in his last five games.

Following Wednesday’s game at Buies Creek, NC State will return home and resume Atlantic Coast Conference action with a three-game weekend series vs. Florida State. Gametimes are 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
