RALEIGH, N.C. - New NC State men's basketball coach Mark Gottfried has been around the college game for a long time. Former players, coaches and media have all commented on NC State's hire.
• "One thing about coach Gottfried, he is a players coach. He took a personal interest in all of us both on and off the court. He took us in as family, and put us in a position to succeed. This is a great hire for NC State, they got a great coach and a great recruiter. He has the ability to bring in top talent, and to get players to the next level. He had a great track record at Alabama, and got the most out of all of us."
Mo Williams - L.A. Clippers, former Alabama guard 2002-03 for Gottfried
•"Mark is totally prepared for this job. He did a super job at Alabama leading that squad to multiple NCAA appearances in a very good conference. Mark is ready to lead the Wolfpack in the ACC."
Dick Vitale - ESPN
•"I thought Mark was very good while working for ESPN, but I knew he had that burning desire to coach. I think NC State hired a good one. He has coached at a very high level. He has been around some high level basketball game and high level programs. He'll jump into this job with all the confidence in the world to become winners."
Lorenzo Romar - Head Coach of Washington Huskies, worked with Gottfried as assistant coaches at UCLA from 1992-95.
• "Mark Gottfried's winning track record, coaching acumen and passion for teaching makes him an ideal fit to lead the Wolfpack basketball program back to national prominence."Steve Lavin - Head coach of the St. John's Red Storm, worked with Gottfried as assistant coached at UCLA from 1992-95
