Softball To Take on Virginia Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (22-20, 3-10 ACC) softball travels to Blacksburg, Va. for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference set with Virginia Tech this weekend. The Wolfpack will battle the Hokies in a doubleheader Friday, April 22 beginning at 5 p.m. before concluding the series Saturday at noon.
The Pack continued its stellar non-conference play Tuesday at South Carolina with a 4-2 victory over the Gamecocks. The win moved NC State's midweek record to a perfect 9-0, completing the season sweep of contests played on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Bridget Desbois leads the Wolfpack with a .336 batting average and 43 hits in 2011, while Bethaney Wells' 27 RBI and seven homeruns are tops on the squad.
Kayla Cox and Morgan Peeler have shouldered the majority of the pitching responsibility this season, throwing a combined 262.2 innings. Cox sports a team-high 3.24 ERA and 11 wins in the 2011 campaign.
Virginia Tech (32-14, 8-7 ACC) lost 2-of-3 games to in-state rival Virginia in last weekend's league action. The Hokies currently sit fourth in ACC standings. At the plate, Courtney Liddle sports the squad's best batting average (.392), and Kristen Froehlich has notched the most RBI (41). Jasmin Harrell (136.1 innings pitched) and Kenzie Roark (145.1 innings pitched) have split time in the circle for Virginia Tech. Harrell owns the squad's top ERA, posting a 2.93 mark.
