Pike Takes Bronze, Rifle Finishes Second at Sectional

CHARLESTON, S.C.--- Led by Madeline Pike’s third place finish in smallbore competition, to earn the NRA Sectional bronze medal, NC State rifle finished second out of six teams at NCAA sectionals this weekend.
The sectionals took place Saturday and Sunday, serving as half of NC State’s qualifying score for the NCAA championships.
The Pack finished first in SEARC competition, but second overall among nine teams in the air rifle portion of the event with a team total of 2,278.
In smallbore, NC State managed a second place finish with a 2,225 total, finishing behind only Columbus State’s 2,278.
The Wolfpack’s two-day total of 4,503 placed second among six teams. Columbus State took home first place honors after shooting a 4,606.
Madeline Pike’s 565 smallbore took home the bronze medal, and set a personal record for the freshman. Pike also tied her air rifle personal record with a 569, and set a combined personal record with a total of 1,134 to lead the Pack.
Bryan Cross and William Teller tied for the team lead in air rifle competition with a pair of 576s. Cross finished with a 1,132 total, while Teller posted a 1,130.
NC State rifle returns to the range February 19 looking for their fifth-straight conference title at the 2011 SEARC championships.
