RALEIGH, N.C. -
NC State defensive end Michael Lemon, one of three finalists for the Rudy Award, will depart Raleigh on Monday for Tuesday’s award banquet in Dallas, Texas. The Rudy Award is given annually to a student-athlete that gave “something extra” to the team.
Lemon will be honored at the banquet, and a video montage highlighting his career will be presented. Members of the Wolfpack coaching staff who are currently attending the annual AFCA convention will also be in attendance.
Nebraska’s Alex Henery and Boston College’s Mark Herzlich stand as the other two finalists.
Lemon enjoyed a strong farewell season in 2010, playing in all 13 contests and starting twice. He collected 31 total tackles, including 9.5 for a loss of 40 yards and four sacks for 30 yards. He forced one fumble and recovered another.
Lemon's remarkable story of perseverance is well known by all members of the NC State community.
"He's been a joy to work with," said NC State head football coach Tom O'Brien. “He's been a joy to have around our football team.
