NC State Season Tickets On Sale
RALEIGH, N.C. — The NC State Rally Club and the Wolfpack baseball team will kick off the 2011 college baseball season and honor three of the program’s all-time greats at the annual First-Pitch Banquet.
The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Raleigh Marriott-City Center at 500 Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. Individual tickets are $75. Sponsor tables, which include eight tickets, can be purchased for $750. The deadline for purchasing tickets will be Feb. 4, 2011. No tickets will be available at the door.
The First-Pitch Banquet is held each year prior to the opening of the college baseball season and gives fans a chance to interact with players and coaches on the Wolfpack baseball team. The evening’s headliners, however, will be Turtle Zaun, Brian Bark and Tom Sergio, the 2011 inductees in the NC State Baseball Hall of Fame.
Zaun (1985-88) was the 1988 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year after batting .399 with 19 doubles, 25 home runs and 87 RBIs. That tied the school single-season record for home runs, and set a single-season record for RBIs that has not been approached since. Zaun was a three-time first-team All-ACC selection (1986-87-88) and was a two-time All-American, earning third-team honors in 1987 and second-team in 1988. Zaun is one of NC State’s six two-time baseball All-Americans. He ranks second in school history in career home runs (54) and slugging percentage (.711), and fifth in RBIs (195).
Bark (1987-90) was a two-way player and is one of just four players in history to earn All-ACC honors four times. He was a first-team all-conference selection in 1988, ‘89 and ‘90. He left NC State as the career record-holder for games (241), consecutive games (215), at-bats (980), runs (265), hits (323), doubles (70), RBIs (199), walks (127) and total bases (538), and still ranks in the school’s top 10 in each of those categories. He also set a school record for saves in a season with 11 in 1989, and left NC State as the school’s career leader in appearances (72) and saves (20). Bark pitched in the major leagues for the Boston Red Sox in 1995.
Sergio (1994-97) was ACC Rookie of the Year in 1994, and was a three-time all-conference selection, earning second-team honors in ‘94 and first-team honors in ‘95 and ‘97. He was a third-team All-American in 1995 and a first-team All-American in 1997. He still holds NC State single-season records for runs scored (85 in 1997), walks (51 in ‘97) and on-base percentage (.526 in ‘97), and is the school career record-holder for runs scored (290) and stolen bases (73). He is one of just six NC State players to earn All-America honors twice, and is one of just five in school history to earn first-team All-America honors.
Zaun, Bark and Sergio all were members of the ACC’s 50-man 50th Anniversary Team, announced in 2003.
The First Pitch Banquet is the main fund-raising event for the NC State Baseball Rally Club. Funds from past banquets have gone toward improvements around Doak Field at Dail Park, including the creation of the new NC State Baseball Hall of Fame area on the concourse in 2009. Additionally, funds from the banquet have been used to make upgrades to the team locker room, for improved pregame and postgame meals for the Wolfpack team, and continued beautification of the stadium.
