Chestnut Hill, Mass. - After falling on the wrong side of its past two matches decided by one point, the No. 37 NC State women's tennis team came through and beat Boston College 4-3 on Sunday, April 18. The victory moves the Wolfpack to 12-8 and 4-7 in the ACC.
The doubles point ended up being critical for the Pack. Sandhya Nagaraj and Daria Petrovic lost 8-3 to Alex Kellerher and olga Khmylev. Lenka Hojckova and Tana Illova tied the score with an 8-4 victory over Katharine Attwell and Brittany Delaney. In a match that went to a tiebreaker, Berkeley Brock and Chloe Smith pulled through with a 9-8 (5) win against Katarina Gajic and Ina Kauppila.
In singles play, the Pack took wins in three of the six matches. Brock forced Gajic to put up goose eggs in a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory. Illova aslo won fairly easily against Kauppila, 6-1, 6-1. Petrovic took down Khmylev in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
With the match decided the Eagles took the next three singles matches, but it was too late. Hojckova lost 6-1, 7-5 to Attwell. Smith was beaten 7-6 (5), 6-3. After losing the first set, No. 59 Nagaraj came back but fell to Kellerher 6-4, 0-6, (10-8).
This was the final regular season match of the year for NC State. The Wolfpack will return to action at the ACC Tournament on Thursday, April 22 in Cary, N.C. The time and opponent will be announced later this week.
