Softball at No. 19 UNC for Weekend Series

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team will take on No. 19 North Carolina in a three-game ACC series this weekend, March 27-28, in Chapel Hill. The Wolfpack and Tar Heels will play two games on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., before wrapping up the series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch. Live stats will be available via GoPack.com.
NC State (18-14 / 1-2 ACC) split a doubleheader at UNC Greensboro on Thursday, taking the opening contest 10-0 in five innings before dropping the second meeting 5-1. Stephanie Call (.359, 27 RBI. 10 HR) and Landon Warren (.333, 11 RBI) continue to lead the Wolfpack offense while Lindsay Campana (12-5, 0.81 ERA, 165 K’s) fronts the pitching assault. Campana has allowed just 13 earned runs in 113 innings.
North Carolina (23-8 / 3-3 ACC) has picked up three wins already this week, sweeping a doubleheader at Charlotte on Tuesday before winning its lone meeting at home with UNC Wilmington on Thursday. In conference play the Tar Heels have won three games, two coming in extra innings at Florida State and another last weekend over Georgia Tech.
Danielle Spaulding is batting .351 for UNC with 24 RBIs, five home runs and four doubles, while Christine Knauer and Ally Blake are both batting .329. Amber Johnson (15-6, 1.67 ERA, 121.1 IP) and Spaulding (8-2, 0.74 ERA, 85.2 IP) lead the Tar Heels rotation, although Constance Orr (0-0, 17.06 ERA, 5.1 IP) has seen limited action.
The Wolfpack leads the all-time series 12-9, despite having dropped four in a row.
NC State will host ACC foe Boston College next weekend, April 2-3. The first game of next Friday’s twin bill will serve as the Pack’s “Power in Pink” breast cancer awareness event.
