Baseball Hosts UNC Greensboro

RALEIGH, N.C. - Coming off a successful weekend at Myrtle Beach, S.C., NC State (6-1) is looking to continue its hot start against instate foe UNC Greensboro (6-1).
The probable starters are Matt Parish (0-0, 8.53) and Mike Russo (0-0, 6.75), with the first pitch set to be thrown at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3. This will be the 28th meeting between the Wolfpack and Spartans, with the Pack holding a 21-6 advantage. Since Elliot Avent became head coach, NC State is 12-3 against UNC Greensboro.
Over the weekend, the Wolfpack won two of its three games. NC State got off to a great start by beating No. 3 UC Irvine 7-4 in 10 innings. Russell Wilson was the hero as he hit a 420-foot walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th to win it.
The Wolfpack took on and defeated James Madison 6-2 in the middle game of the weekend. Danny Canela hit his first college homerun, while Grant Sasser got the win with three innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits.
Going for the sweep on Sunday, NC State ran into a red-hot Coastal Carolina squad and fell to the 12th-ranked Chanticleers 6-3. Jake Buchanan allowed just one earned run on two hits through five innings, but tired in the sixth.
Following the midweek game against UNC Greensboro, NC State will host a three-game series against Quinnipiac (0-0) starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5. The Saturday game is at 2:00 p.m., while Sunday is set for 1:00 p.m.
