Wolfpack Goes 11-1 to Open USTA Event

FLUSHING, N.Y. - NC State women's tennis nearly pulled off a perfect day at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Women's Collegiate Invitational Saturday in Flushing, N.Y.
The Wolfpack went a combined 11-1 on the day, advancing to the semifinals in A doubles and B doubles and the quarterfinals of A, B, C, D, E, and F singles.
Lenka Hojckova and Tana Illova teamed up to defeat Dzakovic/Makhova from Charleston Southern 8-3 and Fick/Jenkins of Liberty 8-6 in A doubles to advance to the semifinals.
Hojckova then picked up a win over Natasha Makarova of Columbia 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 in A singles. Illova later knocked off Ryan Young from Cornell 6-4, 6-1 in C singles.
Joelle Kissell and Ashley Miller scored wins over Decker-Sadowski/Smyser of Dartmouth 8-5 and Dreyfuss/Yapp-Shing of Penn 8-6 in B doubles.
Kissell also defeated Erina Kikuchi from Boston College 6-4, 6-0 in B singles. Miller chalked up a victory against Silia DeFilippis of Yale 7-5, 5-7, 10-8 in F singles.
Christy Sipes and Chloe Smith fell to Jackson/Ryan of Fairfield 8-5, but rallied to defeat Ferhatbegovic/Leme of Farleigh Dickinson 8-2 in C doubles.
Sipes earned a 6-2, 6-1 win against Hannah Morrill of Harvard in D singles. Smith triumphed over Taysha Blessington of Long Island 6-1, 6-0 in E singles.
