Rifle Downed by Ole Miss in Oxford

OXFORD, MISS. - NC State rifle fell to Ole Miss in their first head-to-head match of the year Saturday in Oxford, Miss.
Ole Miss outlasted the Wolfpack 4,625 to 4,536, winning both the smallbore and air rifle competitions.
William Teller led NC State in both air rifle and smallbore Saturday, firing a 565 smallbore and 584 air rifle. The match represents the sixth time in Teller's young career that he has led NC State in scoring.
Freshman Madeline Pike posted the second-best smallbore score, a personal best of 563. Pike notched a 560 in the air rifle portion of the competition.
Bryan Cross, coming off of his leading effort at the SEARC 1 meet came away with 562 in smallbore and 577 in air rifle.
Mark Nations carded scores of 550 in smallbore and 566 in air rifle, and Martha Hall went for 559 in smallbore and 555 in air rifle to wrap up the scoring for NC State.
NC State dropped the smallbore decision by a score of 2,284 to 2,249, and the air rifle 2,341 to 2,287.
The Wolfpack will refocus for the SEARC 2 meet coming up October 16 in Charleston, S.C.
