
Women's Golf Places 11th at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – The NC State women’s golf team finished 11th at the season-opening Duramed Cougar Classic at Yeaman’s Hall Golf Club.
Playing in her first tournament at NC State, Brooke Baker, a junior transfer from Tulsa, led the Wolfpack by tying for 25th at (+4) 71-74-75=220. In today’s final round she came up with four birdies and nine pars to highlight her effort.
Senior Emily Street moved up 13 places on the field after a one-over 73 today. She finished the 54-hole event tied for 39th at +8 (79-72-73=224). The Forest City, N.C., native had a second-straight steady round with three birdies and four bogeys.
Sophomore Meghan Chapman shot a final round five-over 77 to tie for 45th at +8 (72-76-77=225). Her morning round featured three birdies and three bogeys for an even-par 72. She was unable to get much rolling today with just one birdie.
Raleigh native Julie Saleeby played well today with a two-over 74 to finish tied for 56th at +13 (75-80-74=229). She had one birdie and just three bogeys in her final round this morning.
Senior Kathleen Strandberg shot a three-over 75 in today’s third round. She finished 91st in the field because her first round score was disqualified. She had a second-round score of five-over 77.
Georgia’s Marta Silva Zamora won the tournament with a score of –8 (208). In the team standings , Georgia won by seven strokes at –14 (850), followed by Florida State at –7 (857).
NC State will take the next two weeks to prepare for the UNCG-Starmount Fall Classic at Starmount Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The three-day event takes place Sept. 27-29.
