Maynard Gets CPL All-Star Spot

RALEIGH, N.C. - Pratt Maynard has become the second Wolfpack baseball player this week to earn an All-Star nod when the Coastal Plain League announced the American team roster for their 2009 All-Star Game on Wednesday. Maynard will be among eight Forest City Owls to appear in the annual mid-season classic, which will take place on Tuesday, July 21 at Buck Hardee Field in Wilmington, NC. Harold Riggins earned All-Star honors earlier in the week with the Northwoods League.
Maynard is hitting .346 (46-for-133) with 13 doubles, four home runs, and 43 RBIs in 38 games for the 35-5 Owls.
Maynard is among the league leaders in several offensive categories. He is first in runs scored (39), RBIs (34), and walks (29), second in doubles (11), third in hits (46), fourth in total bases (71), and sixth in batting average (.346).
Maynard hit .261 (49-for-188) with 12 doubles, six home runs, and 40 RBIs in 51 games for the Wolfpack in 2009.

Perfect Game Crosschecker released their latest summer league baseball rankings on Wednesday, keeping the Coastal Plain League’s Forest City Owls at the top of the list for a third consecutive week ahead of the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod League.
With a 7-1 victory over Martinsville on Tuesday, the Owls extended their winning streak to six games and improved their overall record to 35-5. The win ended a franchise-record seven-game winning streak for Mustangs.
The Owls are winning games on both sides of the ball. The club’s offense is hitting .284 with 84 doubles, 9 triples, and 27 home runs. Forest City is slugging .425 and is reaching base at a .371 clip (.796 OPS).
On the mound, Forest City pitchers are carrying a 3.08 ERA in 336 1/3 innings with a league-leading 368 strikeouts, and are issuing just three walks per nine innings pitched. Owl starters have six complete games with four shutouts. Opponents are hitting just .218 against them.
Defensively, Forest City is tied for second in the league in fielding percentage at .963.
