Campbell Throttles Baseball, 16-7

BUIES CREEK, N.C. Alex Aycoth and Ryan Hamme combined to drive in seven runs and Campbell scored three, three and eight runs in the first three innings en route to a 16-7 romp past NC State in college baseball action at Taylor Field.
The Camels, who swept the two-game, home-and-home series from the Wolfpack, improved to 24-19. NC State fell to 20-26 with the loss.
Campbell jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double by Zach Johnson and an RBI double by Aycoth, both with two outs. The Wolfpack offense came to life in the top of the second and took a short-lived lead. Pat Ferguson led off and singled to right. Andrew Ciencin, who homered twice on Friday, reached on an infield single to put runners on first and second with none out. Both runners scored on Russell Wilson’s booming triple to right-center, and Wilson scored to tie the game at 3-3 when Wade Moore singled up the middle. Cameron Conner follwed with an infield single to put runners on first and second, and the runners advanced to second and third on Dallas Poulk’s fly ball to left. John Gianis drove in Moore with a sacrifice fly and Pratt Maynard singled home Conner to give the Wolfpack a 5-3 lead.
Campbell came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Stephen Parsons led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Chris Bangi beat out a bunt for a single that put runners on first and third with one down, and Ellis Lowe was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hamme drove in two runs with a double to left-center and Brian Gana gave the Camels a 6-5 lead with an RBI groundout.
That rally made a winner of reliever Hunter Ford (4-2), who worked 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on two hits. He walked four and did not record a strikeout. John Lambert (1-3) took the loss for the Pack. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings and yielded six runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out three.
The Camels blew the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the third. Aycoth led off with a single to center field, and Matt Keen reached on an error by Poulk. Parsons walked to load the bases. Kevin Nelson drove in two runs with a double down the left-field line, and Parsons scored on Bangi’s grounder to second, which was booted for an error. Bangi was safe on the error and Nelson went to third. Lowe singled to left to drive in a run, and Hamme drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left. Aycoth capped the inning with a two-out, three-run home run to left-center. The eight-run uprising gave the Camels a 14-5 lead.
Lowe’s RBI grounder in the fourth gave the Camels a 10-run lead at 15-5. Campbell loaded the bases on walks in the fifth, and Parsons’ sacrifice fly to center field made it 16-5.
Wilson led off the top of the sixth for the Wolfpack and doubled to left-center. Moore walked, and Conner singled home Wilson to make it 16-6. Moore went to third on the play, and scored on Poulk’s sacrifice fly.
NC State will return to action Sunday with a doubleheader vs. North Carolina Central at Doak Field at Dail Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 noon. Both games will be broadcast live on WKNC-FM (88.1) and on-line at gopack.com via Pack Pass.
