Poulk Shines as the Wolfpack Routs Wofford, 12-0

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Drew Poulk went 3-for-5 with two home runs, including a grand slam, and RBIs, to provide the bulk of the offense Tuesday as NC State rolled to a 12-0 victory over Wofford at Doak Field at Dail Park. Pratt Maynard and Dallas Poulk each added three hits and five Wolfpack hitters scored two runs apiece in the win. The shutout was NC State’s second of the season.
NC State improves to 19-17 overall with the win, while the loss drops Wofford to 14-16.
Jake Kensmoe (2-0) earned the victory with three innings of scoreless relief. He scattered three hits and struck out three. Jason Zinser started for the Wolfpack, allowing one hit over three innings He struck out three and walked two. Cash Collins took the loss for Wofford. He allowed 10 hits and seven runs in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two, walked one, and fell to 1-4 on the year. Scott Summers started for the Terriers, going two shutout innings giving up two hits.
The Wolfpack jumped on the board in the third inning off Collins. After Dallas Poulk and John Gianis both reached on singles, Pratt Maynard gave NC State its first run of the game with an RBI groundout, scoring Poulk. One hitter later, Pat Ferguson bounced a single up the middle to bring Gianis in for a 2-0 Wolfpack lead.
NC State extended its lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. Drew Martin blooped a one-out single to left. Dallas Poulk gave the Pack a 3-0 lead with a triple to the the right-field gap, scoring Martin. Poulk scored his second run of the evening on a Devon Cartwright groundout to give the Wolfpack a 4-0 advantage.
NC State broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth. Maynard hustled out an infield single to start the rally for the Pack. He advanced to third when Ferguson singled through the right side. Drew Poulk delivered the big hit of the inning, a three-run home run to the left-field gap to put NC State up 7-0.
The Wolfpack put the game away in the home half of the eighth. Walks to Gianis and Ferguson and a Maynard single loaded the bases for the Wolfpack with one out.
