Women's Tennis Falls to No. 56 FIU

Miami, Fla. The NC State women’s tennis team fell to No. 56 Florida International, 6-1, on March 4, in Miami, Fla. Sophomore Lenka Hojckova won her singles match over No. 124 Liset Brito to score the Pack’s point. NC State falls to 2-8 on the season, and FIU improves to 7-5.
FIU won two of the three doubles matches to win the first point. The No. 35 doubles team of junior Berkeley Brock and Hojckova defeated Mariana Muci Torres and Maria Pazo, 8-6, at No. 1. Senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock fell to Liset Brito and Maria Vallasciani, 8-5, at No. 2, and Maria Spenceley and Priscilla Castillo secured the doubles point for FIU with an 8-0 win over junior Daria Petrovic and sophomore Jackie Ussery at No. 3.
No. 113 Hojckova won her doubles match over No. 124 Brito, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0(10-6), at No. 1 to win the Pack’s only singles win of the contest. No. 120 Muci defeated Brock, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0(10-8), and Barringer fell to Pazo, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4. Petrovic fought Spenceley into a third set at No. 3, and the two traded points, with the Sepenceley coming out on top, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(17-15). Castillo defeated Mortlock, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5, and Ussery fell to Vallasciani, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.
The Pack will return to Raleigh to face College of Charleston on March 11, a match that will be broadcast on ACC Select.
