Women's Golf Places 14th at LSU Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. Freshman Meghan Chapman fired her best round of the year with a 4 (68) on Sunday during the final round of the LSU Golf Classic. NC State’s women’s golf team finished 14th in a field of 18 teams with a 54-hole score of +28 (892).
As a team, the Wolfpack had its best showing of the weekend with a +2 (290) effort during Sunday’s final of three rounds at The University Club. Chapman was the catalyst with her best college round in her first season with the red and white.
After rounds of 72 and 77 during the first two rounds of the tournament, Chapman entered today’s morning round tied for 35th. She started at hole 12 and was off early with birdie on her first two holes. She added two more birdies and did not have a blemish on her scorecard as she posted her first top-20 of the season by tying for 16th overall at +1 (72-77-68=217).
Senior Lauren Doughtie followed up yesterday’s 2 (70) with a two-over 74 Sunday and finished tied for 29th at +4 (76-70-74=220). She was very steady all day long with 16 pars and two bogeys.
Junior Emily Street finished up with a three-over 75 today to finish tied for 66th +12 (79-74-75=228). She also had a steady final round with three bogeys and 15 pars.
Junior Joanna Saleeby rallied on the final day with a nice one-over 73 to place tied for 83rd at +17 (83-77-73=233). She birdied the par-3 16th hole to highlight her play, while also picking up 15 pars.
Junior Kathleen Strandberg shot a 79 today to finish tied for 86th at +18 (77-78-79=234)
Virginia won the team portion of the tournament with a score of 8 (856), followed by Tulane (861) and LSU (867).
Arkansas’ Lucy Nunn (-7; 209) won the individual title in a playoff over Virginia’s Calle Nielson and South Carolina’s Benedicte Toumpsin.
NC State next competes at the Bryan National Collegiate April 3-5 in Browns Summit, N.C.
