Wrestling Drops 30-7 Decision at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. UNC Greensboro won eight of 10 matches against a depleted NC State on Wednesday and walked away with a 30-7 victory in a dual match at Fleming Gymnasium.
The loss dropped the Wolfpack to 4-12-1 on the season. UNCG extended its winning streak to three matches and improved to 5-10.
NC State actually held a 4-3 lead after the first two matches, thanks to Jake Burge’s 14-4 major decision over Brett Miller. Burge took Miller down early in the first period and rode Miller out the remainder of the period to accumulate more than two minutes of advantage time. He used an escape and two takedowns to extend his lead to 7-1 after two periods and scored three more takedowns in the third period. The Wolfpack’s impressive freshman 174-pounder won for the eighth consecutive time and has won 11 of his last 13 matches.
UNCG won the next four matches to take an 18-4 lead, although Mike Moreno almost won for the Pack at 125 before falling to Mitchell Johnson, 6-5. Moreno led 2-1 after the first period and was tied at 2-2 with more than a minute of riding time to his credit heading into the final two minutes of action. Mitchell won the match with a takedown in the final 15 seconds of the match.
Darrius Little finally stopped the UNCG streak with an 11-8 decision over Casey Boyle at 133. Little used a reversal and a takedown in the second period to take a 9-6 lead and held on thanks to a takedown in the third.
