RALEIGH, N.C. - If recruiting is indeed the lifeblood of a college athletics program, then the NC State baseball program should be in great shape.
On Tuesday, Baseball America released its annual national rankings of college baseball recruiting classes, and the Durham-based publication ranked NC State’s 15-man class as the No. 11 class in the nation.
The Wolfpack’s recruiting class - assembled by associate head coach, pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Tom Holliday and assistant coach Chris Hart - has been impressive in fall workouts. Several newcomers figure to push for playing time when the 2010 college baseball season begins in February.
“We’re very happy to receive this kind of recognition for our recruiting class from a respected national publication like Baseball America,” Wolfpack head coach Elliott Avent said. “Coach Holliday and Coach Hart worked extremely hard to sign a strong recruiting class. We needed immediate and long-term help, and we feel that this class will provide both.”
NC State’s newcomers will be on display along with the rest of the Wolfpack as fall practice winds down next weekend with the annual intersquad fall world series. Single games will be played at Doak Park at Dail Field on Friday, October 30; Saturday, October 31; and Sunday, November 1. Gametimes will be announced later on gopack.com.
