RALEIGH, N.C. Redshirt junior Willie Young has been named to the Rotary Lombardi Award as announced by the award committee on Wednesday, Aug. 27. The honor, typically bestowed upon the nation’s best lineman or linebacker, will be announced Dec. 10 in Houston, Texas.
A native of Riviera Beach, Fla., Young played in all 12 contests and served as the starting defensive end in the final eight games of the 2007 campaign. He put up 16 tackles for loss, tied for the seventh-best mark in school history, and recorded 24 quarterback pressures and six sacks. Young’s 16 tackles for loss was the most ever for a sophomore, besting Mario Williams’ 15.
