5 Gamecocks, 3 Wolfpackers Picked to NCAA Regional Team

RALEIGH, N.C. - Pitcher Clayton Shunick, second baseman Dallas Poulk and outfielder Matt Payne were named to the NCAA Raleigh Regional All-Tournament Team as they led NC State to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time since 2003.
Most Outstanding Player Justin Smoak led five South Carolina Gamecock players named to the all-tournament team. Smoak hit .467 with two home runs and six RBIs for the Gamecocks, who fell to NC State, 2-1, in the regional championship game.
Shunick struck out eight batters in the Wolfpack’s 6-5 victory over South Carolina on Saturday. Poulk had three hits - including a home run - in the tournament, and Payne hit a team-high .462.
Charlotte placed two players on the all-tournament team.
