ALBUQUERQUE Junior Lauren Doughtie recorded seven birdies on Friday to finish tied for 34th at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships after shooting a final round two-under 70 at the UNM Championship Course.
Doughtie finished up the 72-hole tournament at +12 (76-80-74-70=300).
Weather was again an issue for a third-straight day that halted play for more than two hours.
Doughtie, ranked No. 45 in the nation, had her most up-and-down round of the tournament on Friday. After beginning with a bogey at No. 1 for a third straight round, she birdied Nos. 3 and 4 to move to one under.
The roller coaster continued with a bogey at No. 5. After a par at the 6th, she birdied No.7, bogeyed No. 8 and then birdied No. 9 for the first time this week to leave Doughtie out in 1 (35).
A second-straight birdie at No. 10 moved Doughtie to two-under for the first time all week, but she gave back two shots with bogeys at 11 and 12 to move back to even par.
But she finished with two more birdies to end her first NCAA experience on a high note with a personal-best tournament score of 70.
All together her round featured seven birdies, five bogeys and six pars.
Doughtie is the first player in NC State women’s golf history to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
