RALEIGH, N.C. -- Akeem Cunningham of East Orange, N.J., has signed a letter of intent to join the Wolfpack football squad this fall. Cunningham, who played cornerback, safety, quarterback, wide receiver and running back during his senior campaign at East Orange High School, will start off in NC State's defensive secondary.
The 5-11, 185-pound Cunningham helped lead his prep squad to the state title last season, throwing for 600 yards and eight touchdowns against just two interceptions. On defense, he tallied 30 tackles, broke up six passes, pulled down an interception and forced two fumbles, all while playing in just six games.
Also a standout in basketball, Cunningham played for the state title on the hardwood, where his squad lost in the championship game by four points.
