Raleigh, N.C. After winning their home finale Tuesday, 17-6, against North Carolina A&T, the Wolfpack are hitting the road this weekend for a three-game series against third-ranked Florida State. This will be the final series for the Pack in the regular season before continuing their 12-day road trip at the ACC Tournament next week.
The Thursday-Friday-Saturday series will start the road trip with the first pitch slated for 7:00 p.m for all three games. All of the games will be broadcast live on the Sun Sports Network and on WKNC-FM (88.1). Coverage of the game can also be found on-line at GoPack.com through Pack Pass. Friday and Saturday’s games will be available on Time Warner channel 320 in the Raleigh area on Fox College Sports Atlantic.
The Wolfpack come into the weekend ranked in all of the nationally recognized polls and carry a strong RPI as they try to finish off the season strong and potentially host a regional. The Pack checked in at No. 18 in the latest Rivals.com poll and is 12th in the RPI. In addition, the red and white are No. 20 in the Baseball America poll and ranked No. 21 by Collegiate Baseball.
The Pack enters the weekend on a hot streak having won eight of its last 11 games, and 22 of its last 29. Overall this year the team is 36-16 and 17-9 in league play. The Wolfpack has won five consecutive ACC weekend series and has not lost a weekend series in league play since dropping two out of three to Clemson the weekend of March 21-23.
Run support has not been a problem the last three games for the red and white. Including the final two games against Maryland this past weekend and the game against North Carolina A&T the Pack has scored 46 runs on 47 hits. First baseman Pat Ferguson and outfielder/third baseman Matt Payne have led the team at the plate this season. Ferguson is hitting .350 on the season while Payne is just behind him at .345. The two share the team lead with nine homers. Payne is also tied with Marcus Jones with 44 RBI’s for tops on the team.
Eric Surkamp (4-2, 4.81) will get the start for NC State in the first game while the pitchers for the final two games have yet to be decided. Surkamp will go against Matt Fairel (9-1, 2.84) of the Seminoles. Elih Villanueva (6-2, 3.39) and Geoff Parker (6-1, 3.48) will pitch for Florida State on Friday and Saturday respectively.
