BATON ROUGE, La. Lauren Doughtie is in fourth place overall after firing an even-par 72 to lead NC State into ninth place after day one of the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic at the University Club.
The Wolfpack shot a team total of +15 (303).
Doughtie is only two shots off the lead among a field of 90 competitors. The Suffolk, Va., native had three birdies on her round and will begin Saturday behind Wake Forest’s Laura Crawford and Florida State’s Whitney Wright at 2 and Rebecca Kuhn (LSU) at 1.
Freshman Julie Saleeby is tied for 11th after a nice two-over 74 on Friday. Her second birdie of the day at No. 11 put her at one-over, before a late bogey kept her two shots of her career best round of 72 set back in the fall at the Lady Tar Heel Invite.
Senior Stephanie Derrey sits tied for 46th at +6 (78). She finished her round on a high note with a birdie on the 18th to offset a tough day, which included a triple on the 17th.
Emily Street is tied for 61st after a +7 (79). She had a rough start to the day with a double at the first hole, but rallied with a birdie at the par-3 5th hole. However, she gave that right back with a double on the sixth and never was able to recover.
Joanna Saleeby is tied for 84th overall after a +12 (84).
Florida State leads the 17-team field at +5 (293), followed by host LSU and Wake Forest at +12 (300).
Day two of the 54-hole event begins tomorrow morning with tee times starting at 8 am CDT.
