Pack To Tour State In 6-Game Red-White Tour

RALEIGH, N.C. NC State’s basketball team, almost certain to be ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason polls, will play a series of Red-White intrasquad games in various cities around the state during the month of November, it has been announced by head coach Norman Sloan.
The six-game tour will open on Nov. 8 at Greensboro and conclude on Nov. 24 at Reynolds Coliseum, home of the Wolfpack since 1949. Dates and sites of the other games are Nov. 14 at Rocky Mount, Nov. 16 at Shelby, Nov. 17 at Asheville and Nov. 20 at Charlotte.
“We’re happy that this series of games has been arranged,” said Sloan. “It will enable many fans to see our team play who may not otherwise have the opportunity during the regular season. I think it will also be good for the players in that it will break the monotony of the long pre-season practice grind.”
After a week and a half of drills, Sloan is impressed with his squad. “The returning veterans have all looked good,” he said. “David Thompson and Tommy Burleson, in particular, are continuing to play exceptionally well, just like they did in the World University Games at Moscow.”
Thompson, a unanimous All-American selection last year as a sophomore, and Burleson, the towering 7-foot-4 senior, head up a list of eight returning lettermen from last year’s 27-0 club. The others are 5-7 Monte Towe, 6-5 Greg Hawkins, 6-5 Craig Kuszmaul, 6-3 Mark Moeller, 6-8 Steve Nuce and 6-7 Tim Stoddard.

“I’m not sure how we will divide the squad for these games,” said Coach Sloan, “but we’ll try to make the two teams even most of the time. The nice part about these games is that the players will not have to miss any classes.”
Admission for the games, which are being sponsored by the Wolfpack Club, will be $2 for adults and $1 for students.
