RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State rifle team opens its 2008-09 season with a trip to Charleston, S.C. on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Wolfpack will face Army and host The Citadel, in the first match of the fall half of the season.
NC State finished last season with a 26-6 (13-0 SEARC/ 0-6 GARC) record, as well as earning the team’s third Southeastern Air Rifle conference championship and a No. 19 national ranking. The Citadel is a SEARC member, and the Army is part of the Great American Rifle Conference.
The Pack has three returning members, senior Noel Keck, and juniors Katie Siegert and Samantha Bullard.
“[Keck] significantly raised her level of performance last year,” said rifle head coach Keith Miller. “On the range she was more focused and disciplined and much more demanding of herself. [Siegert] is our most consistent returning player from last year, and [Bullard]’s smallbore has been steadily improving.”
NC State also welcomes six newcomers to the team. Pierce Ellis, Rachel Jones, Mark Nations and James Patterson all hail from North Carolina, and Christopher Melochick and Matthew Yeatman join the team from Virginia. All six bring a variety of experience to the rifle team.
The Pack is looking to improve its national ranking this season, as well as earn a fourth SEARC championship and become more aggressive in the very competitive GARC.
