Yoest Named ACC Legend

GREENSBORO, N.C. Former NC State offensive guard Bill Yoest was named to the Class of 2008 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game Legends as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Oct. 1. The class, which consists of 12 former ACC football standouts, will be honored at this year’s Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship game. They will also appear at the ACC Coaches and Awards Luncheon on Dec. 5, and will be honored at the ACC Night of Legends in Tampa Bay on the same day.
Yoest, who played for the Wolfpack in 1970-73, lettered four times, and was a two-time first team All-ACC Choice as a guard. His senior year, he earned consensus All-America honors from the Associated Press, UPI, Football Writers, Football Coaches, NEA and Walter Camp, and received the 1973 ACC Jacobs Blocking Trophy.
Yoest, a Pittsburgh, Pa., native, played for coaches Earl Edwards, Al Michaels, and Lou Holtz. Under Holtz, Yoest helped the Pack to a two-year, 17-6-1 record, and NC State finished 1972 ranked 17th and 1973 ranked 16th in the nation. He also earned invitations to two postseason all-star games, the Hula Bowl and East-West Shrine Game, and served as team co-captain for the East squad. On Sept. 27, 2003, his No. 63 jersey was retired at halftime of the North Carolina game.
The other former ACC players named to the class are Steve DeOssie (Boston College), Levon Kirkland (Clemson), Claude “Tee” Moorman, II (Duke), Danny Kannell (Florida State), Pat Swilling (Georgia Tech), Stan Jones (Maryland), Russell Maryland (Miami), Marcus Jones (North Carolina), Tiki Barber (Virginia), Don Strock (Virginia Tech), and John Henry Mills (Wake Forest).
