PEELER: A Handful of Football Notes

Carrying those flags is the honor those two players receive for being the scout team players of the week, as their teammates rush by the statue of Fury, a bronze wolf commissioned by Wolfpack head coach Tom O’Brien by noted wildlife artist and former NC State football player Dick Idol.
Carrying the flags is something that O’Brien had seen at other state universities and thought was appropriate for the Wolfpack.
“It’s something we talked about in the off-season,” O’Brien said. “We thought, being the state school, that’s what we ought to do also.”
So far, freshman tight end Mario Carter and freshman offensive lineman Andrew Wallace have carried the American flag and sophomore linebacker Wes Quinn and freshmen defensive back Earl Wolff have carried the state flag.

That’s just the beginning of the evening’s festivities, which will include a pep rally at Reynolds Coliseum, featuring the team and coaching staff, and a concert with hip-hop artist Common and hip-hop/alternative rock band N.E.R.D.

It’s part of a new sportsmanship initiative sponsored by the Atlantic Coast Conference office. All 12 ACC schools have agreed to play the opposing team’s fight song prior to the opening kickoff.
“I think it is a great sign of sportsmanship to play the opposing team's fight song,” said Paul Garcia, the director of the NC State Marching Band. “It shows a high level of class and respect.”

Fees for having one or both of the mascots attend events are $250 per hour for corporate events, $150 per hour for private parties and celebrations and $50 per hour for university, school or charity events.
