Coaches’ Quotes
NC State vs.
January 9, 2007
NC State head coach Sidney Lowe
“They [Central] came out with a great zone defense and tried to make us take jump shots. Our defense came out well, but we were careless with the ball and some of our passes, but our defense made a difference in the game.”
“Our quickness and perimeter defense were solid. We didn’t allow many open looks. They were able to get some second chances, but our concentration was good throughout.”
“You’re patient, you’re patient, and if that’s what’s there, that’s what you have to take. We don’t like to take that many threes, but when their defense is playing zone you have to.”
“We had the ball moving quicker and Brandon [Costner] was able to move faster. In the second half when we’re playing offense at our end, we move quicker. I don’t know if it’s because I’m down there calling out to them, but we’re able to move and get into position.”
On playing after Courtney Fells left: “I give our guys credit for figuring how to swing the ball to the right guys. Simon [Harris] did a tremendous job for us on defense. That’s his game. He comes out and gives a lot of energy, dives for loose balls, and playing solid defense.”
On playing
North Carolina Central coach Henry Dickerson
“Another ACC team, another athletic team. Their length just killed us. You cannot similate that in practice strength, size and speed. Our guys just got worn down after a while. They were able to pound us inside and we couldn’t stop them.”
“Defensively, it could have been [our best game of the year]. We started out playing man, but some of their guys are just so physical and they started to pound us inside, so we switched to zone. I thought we played pretty well in the zone. We lost [Brandon] Costner a few times, and he burned us with a couple of big threes that helped put the game away. The key to our defense was we were in the right spots. When we got out of our spots, we got in trouble.”
