NC State 50, Presbyterian 43
Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008
RBC Center Raleigh, N.C.
NC State Head Coach Sidney Lowe
“It was a really tough game. They executed their stuff really well.
They had control of the tempo for much of the game, but we were able to
pull off the win in the end.”
On having to play defense for extended periods of time:
“It was really tough on our guys. I had to yell at them to keep them
focused and remind them to get low and stay in there”
On the team’s defense towards the end of the game:
“Our guys did a great job to stay in the game mentally. Gavin made a
huge block and we really buckled down at the end of the game and got
some huge stops.”
On the team’s three pointers/post-play:
“We have to make those (three point) shots. Even against the zone we
tried to punch it in down low. They were determined to make us shoot
from the perimeter and we finally started making shots in the second
half.”
On Gavin Grant:
“He played a solid game. He really got it going in the second half and
was really solid for us tonight.”
Presbyterian Head Coach Gregg Nibert
“It was an unbelievable game. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys to
come in here, on Tobacco Road, against an ACC team in a hostile
environment like this and battle and play as well as they did. It was a
two or three point game with a few minutes left to play and we were in
there battling. I couldn’t be more proud of this team.”
On NC State down the stretch:
“Courtney (Fells) hit two big shots and Gavin (Grant) made some big
plays down the stretch to help NC State out. I give their players all of
the credit.”
On the Norm Sloan connection:
“I think that Coach Sloan would be very proud of both teams today for
this basketball game. Both teams played hard and intense. He had a lot
to do with the success that both of these programs have enjoyed
throughout their existence.”
On his team:
“This Presbyterian team is in a transition year, but to do what we’re
doing is incredible. Our kids are showing how tough they are, both
physically and mentally. We lost at Georgia by 10 points, we played
Clemson and Wake Forest well, and we’re about to head down and take on
Georgia Tech. These players have done a tremendous job, and the coaches
have as well.”
