CONSTITUTION FOR NC STATE
STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
ARTICLE I NAME AND PURPOSE
Section 1 This organization shall be known as the NC State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Section 2 The purpose of this organization is to: 1. Generate a student-athlete voice within the Athletics Department. 2. Solicit student-athlete response to proposed NCAA legislation. 3. Promote communication between NC State student-athletes and the athletic administration. 4. Encourage participation in selected campus activities and the ImPACK Community Outreach Program. 5. To play an integral role in the governance structure of NC State. Section 3 The responsibilities and expectations of members: 1. To serve as a representative body for interest and concerns of student- athletes. a. To discuss ways in which the student-athlete’s experience on campus can be improved and how to achieve the proper balance between athletics, academics and life experiences. b. To discuss ways to help NC State implement the principles of student-athlete welfare: overall educational experience; cultural diversity and gender equity; health and safety; student-athlete coach relationship; fairness, openness and honesty; and student-athlete involvement. 2. To play a leadership role in the promotion of community service projects. 3. To garner support of athletic administrators, coaches and staff on initiatives important to student-athletes. 4. To always be informed of any issues or topics, which affect Division I athletics, and in particular, NC State student-athletes. 5. To inform their campus committee and ACC Conference committee of relevant issues. 6. To always know that you they represent NC State and the ACC. Athletes are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times. Section 1 Team representatives are selected by the following criteria: 1. Members are student-athletes who are athletically and academically eligible. 2. Chosen by his/her team or coach to represent their team. Section 1 The elected officers of the organization shall be a President, a Vice-President and a Secretary Section 2 The officers shall be elected by the organization members to serve One academic year, beginning in August. Section 1 Amendments to the constitution shall be presented by members of the organization in writing and read at a regular meeting, but shall not be voted upon until the next regular meeting, and then only after informing each member of the proposed amendments. A majority of 2/3 of the members present is required in order to vote. Section 2 Any article of this constitution or part thereof that is in direct violation of the student government constitution of by-laws shall be null and void and declared unconstitutional by the president of student government. Any differences of opinion between the organization and the president of the student government shall be brought before the legislature, whose decision shall be final. Section 1 This organization will every third Sunday at 6:30PM with the exception of holiday breaks. Section 1 Each member of the SAAC must be serving on at least one sub-committee throughout the year. Section 2 Committees include: 1. Community/University Relations Coordinate SAAC outreach events/programs (i.e. Thanksgiving baskets, Food Bank) Integrate student-athletes into campus and community Coordinate student-athlete and faculty relations Coordinate student-athlete participation in campus events 2. Special Events Assist in the coordination of special events for the SAAC such as All Sports Banquet, Winter Gala, and ImPack seminars and workshops. 3. Life Skills Committee Maintain and keep accurate records of the ImPACK competition Section 3 Each SAAC representative will serve as their team’s Community Outreach coordinator.ARTICLE II MEMBERSHIP
