Kristen Vincent Moves Into Semis at Carolinas Match Play

STANLEY, N.C. No. 1 seed Kristen Vincent moved into the semifinals of the 10th Carolinas Women's Match Play Championship with a pair of victories on Wednesday at the Cowans Ford Country Club.
A rising sophomore on the NC State women’s golf team, Vincent posted a 5 and 4 victory over No. 16-seed Mary Kate Bowman in the first round of match play on Wednesday morning.
She came back in the afternoon to earn a 3 & 2 victory over Maggie Weder of Greenville, N.C. to earn a spot in the semifinals.
Three of the top four seeds will face off in the semifinals on Thursday morning. Vincent will take on Taylor Barrett of York, S.C., who plays collegiately at the University of South Carolina. The second semifinal match will feature reigning CGA Women's Senior Player of the Year, Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. and local club favorite, Chris Brady of Stanley, N.C. Brady graduated from Vanderbilt University this past spring and plans to turn professional in the fall.
Fellow Wolfpack teammates Joanna Saleeby and Cindel Gwyn also qualified for the Round of 16 in the Championship Flight’s lower bracket.
On Wednesday, Saleeby, the No. 12 seed, lost 3 & 2 to Chapel Hill’s Alison Leeper, while No. 15 Gwyn fell 6 & 5 to Patty Moore of Charlotte.
Vincent fired a two-under 70 on Tuesday to tie the all-time low-scoring record for the tournament and earned the top-seed among 24 competitors. Saleeby, a Raleigh native, shot a six-over 78, while Gwyn, who hails from Calabash, N.C., fired a 79.
This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
