Hickson Invited to USA Basketball U19 Team Trials

RALEIGH, N.C. Incoming men’s basketball freshman J.J. Hickson has accepted an invitation to tryout for the USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship Team announced today by USA Basketball. Hickson is one of 20 players, 19 years old and younger, invited to the June 28-30 Trials which will be held at the Dallas Maverick’s practice facility.
The selected USA team finalists will remain for the USA’s July 1-7 training camp, which will also see the USA compete in the 2007 Global Games in Dallas. The Trials will be used to select the finalists for the USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team that will look to return home with gold from the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship that is being held July 12-22 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Hickson previously participated in the 2006 USA U18 National Team Trials.
Hickson was a 2007 McDonald's All-American and a second-team Parade All-American. He played at Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga., where he averaged 25.9 points, 13.8 assists and 3.0 blocks as a senior. He led the East team in scoring with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting, also adding six rebounds in 15 minutes at the McDonald's All-American game.
