Women's Golf Completes NCAA East Regional Action

BATON ROUGE, La. Freshman Emily Street fired NC State’s best round of the day on Saturday with a one-under-par 71, and along with sophomore Lauren Doughtie, was the Wolfpack’s top-overall finishers at the NCAA Women’s East Regional at the par-72, 6,403-yard University Club.
Starting once again from No. 10 tee, Street finished in a tie for 59th place at +7 (76-76-71=223) for the tournament. Street recorded three birdies on her final round, including the final hole of the day at the par-4 9th hole.
Doughtie shot a second straight round of four-over 76 to finish in a tie for 59th place with a score of +7 (71-76-76=223). She made the turn at +1 with a birdie at the par -5 11th, when Doughtie managed only one birdie on the font nine for a three-over 39 with five straight pars.
Junior Stephanie Derrey followed up yesterday’s even-par 72 with a two-over 74 to finish at +8 (78-72-74=224) in a tie for 62nd place. She began her round with birdies at No. 10 and 12 and made the turn at -1. However, three bogeys saddled her with a three-over 39 on the front nine.
Freshman Kathleen Strandberg rallied for a one-under 73 on Saturday to finish tied for 89th place at +14 (78-79-73=230). After struggling through her initial 36 holes of the Regional, Strandberg had three birdies and 11 pars and shot an even-par 36 on her first nine hole today.
Freshman Joanna Saleeby shot an 81 during today’s final round to finish in a tie for 99th with a three-day total of +21 (77-79-81=237).
The Wolfpack shot a third round team total of +6 (294) for its best day at the tournament by eight strokes. The club placed 18th overall at +35 (302-303-294=899).
As a team, Duke won the title at -20 (291-281-272=844). UCLA finished second at -18, followed by Wake Forest at -6.
UCLA’s Sydnee Michaels earned medalist honors after shooting -13 (66-68-69=203), followed by Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst who shot an incredible -10 (63) during the final round to finish runner-up at -10, tied with UCLA’s Tiffany Joh.
